Clay Johnson has enjoyed a very successful basketball career that spreads over 30 years as a player, coach, mentor, and motivator. He has competed on every level of the game possible from high school, Junior College, Division 1 College, Minor League, Overseas, all the way to the NBA. Coaches have always praised him for his positive attitude, will to win, and great work ethic. All these attributes work together making him the champion that he is on and off the court. The highlight of his career came as he received an NBA World Championship ring as a member of the 1982 World Champion Los Angeles Lakers. He spent three seasons in the NBA, two with the Lakers and one with the Seattle Super Sonics. Since retiring from the game, he has dedicated his time to working with youth of all ages all across the country. He motivates them to believe that they can achieve any goal that they have, if they believe in their hearts.
Coach Johnson is a highly respected member of the Basketball Community not only in KC but, around the country and abroad. He will be working closely with the SOAR team and the local Basketball Community to help provide a safe, fun, and high calibre program where strength, speed and fundamentals will be the core focus throughout all youth age groups. Coach Johnson will also assist with the growth of our High School Aged Academy program and teams as they prepare for their careers beyond.
